Life is too short not to celebrate who you are, and being a lesbian is a beautiful part of that!
In today’s climate, where lesbians are often shamed, scorned and left out of conversations, it is important to look after yourself, and add a little happiness to your day to day life.
Whether you’re out and proud or just starting to embrace your identity, here are seven ways to honour your lesbian self every single day.
1. Curate Your Lesbian Playlist
Music has always been a cornerstone of lesbian expression. Create a playlist that lifts your spirit and reflects your journey.
Include lesbian icons like Brandi Carlile, Hayley Kiyoko, Melissa Etheridge, Chappel Roan, and King Princess. Bonus points for discovering up-and-coming lesbian artists!
Hearing lyrics that are relevant to you is a sweet little reminder that you are not alone.
2. Support Lesbian Art
Seek out books, films, art, and content made by lesbians. Dive into works like Audre Lorde’s poetry, the groundbreaking art of Alison Bechdel, or films like Desert Hearts.
Supporting lesbian creators uplifts our community and ensures that our voices continue to thrive.
3. Attend Lesbian-Centric Events
Check out local meet-ups, book clubs, or lesbian-specific nights at LGBT bars (I’m not going to even jokingly suggest checking out a lesbian bar, because I know that most of us don’t have any local to us…). Being around others like you will help you to feel comfortable, in a world that is determined to make you as uncomfortable as possible.
If in-person events aren’t your thing, virtual spaces like lesbian podcasts or online book discussions can be just as rewarding. Connecting with the community is empowering and joyful.

4. Embrace Your History
Take some time to learn about the trailblazers who paved the way for us. From icons like Stormé DeLarverie and Ruth Ellis to authors like Radclyffe Hall, knowing our history connects us to the larger narrative of lesbian resilience and strength.
5. Fly the Flag (Literally or Metaphorically!)
Whether it’s a subtle rainbow pin, a lesbian pride flag in your home, or just being open about your identity if it is safe for you to do so, small acts of visibility can make a big difference. They remind you—and others—that being a lesbian is something to be celebrated.
6. Find Joy in Your Community
From your chosen family to your closest friends, celebrate the people who make life brighter. Being part of a loving, supportive community is one of the greatest joys of lesbian life. Plan a cosy dinner party, a picnic, or even a group trip to a lesbian-friendly destination!
7. Remind Yourself That Female Homosexuality Is Normal
Women that are exclusively attracted to other women have always existed, and they always will. Despite the reactionary rhetoric that pollutes the media, and the repetitive, toxic online discourse, there is nothing wrong with being a woman who is exclusively attracted to women, and there is nothing wrong with you!
It can be as simple as repeating those words to yourself in the mirror when you get ready in the morning, or whispering them to yourself in those moments when the world is loud and wrong.
You are not a freak. You are not a monster. You are not an outcast. You are a normal, wonderful woman, and if you aren’t hearing that from the world around you, then you must remind yourself, as often as you need to, until the rest of the world catches up.
Celebrating yourself as a lesbian isn’t just about grand gestures—it’s about the small, meaningful ways you honour who you are every day. Whether it’s through music, community, or just small words to yourself every morning, find the joy in being you. 🌈
