The Countdown Begins

Hello friends and lovers,

As I write to you, I am surrounded by Christmas lights and wrapping paper, waiting for Christmas, and all of the excitement that it brings.

I am also waiting for 2024, because I will finally be able to share this magazine with you.

My excitement for this is immeasurable, and it is possible that I am more excited for the magazine than I am for Christmas, which is absolutely crazy, because I am a certified Christmas girlie.

I thought that it might be nice to give you an idea of what I’m doing and how things are coming along, because I know that a lot of people promise things to our community and then don’t deliver, so winning the trust of my potential readership may be an uphill battle. I’m happy to do the work, and happy to answer questions along the way, so please feel free to ask about anything you are unsure of.

At the moment, I have constructed a slight web presence for the magazine. The website is up, but not yet in its final form, and there is an Instagram account. I plan to create a few more social media pages, such as TikTok and X, but I will need to grab a SIM card, so that I can verify phone numbers and so on.

I have also laid out submission rules and (in some people’s eyes) more importantly, the payment structure for successful submissions.

I do think that this is important, frankly, because as someone who has been in the creative arts for over a decade, I believe people should be compensated for their work. At the moment, the rates I can pay are not as high as I’d like, but they are higher than average for an independent publication, while still being sustainable for the magazine, and I hope to be able to raise them in the future as we grow.

Submissions will open in January, and every now and again, I glow, just thinking of the journey that we are about to embark upon.

I believe in the idea of lesbians having something for themselves. It is as simple as that. I do not believe this out of hatred of anybody else, but out of love for myself, and every other woman like me, who needs one thing, in all of the world, that truly belongs to her.

I hope that I will see you again, on the road to building this space, and I hope that it brings you joy.

Sincerely,

Jennifer x
